How I Knew It Was Time to Close My Business (And What Happened Next)

Closing a business is something nobody really talks about... especially when it’s a business you poured your heart into!

Today, I want to share the real story behind why I made the difficult decision to close my brand, Cozy Cow & what I learned from the process.

If you’re currently wondering if it’s time to close your business too, I hope this helps you feel less alone.

The Hardest Part: Letting Go of the Dream

When I first started Cozy Cow, I was so excited. I had a vision for creating beautiful products for kids, simple, fun, mess-free sensory play products that could make life easier (and happier) for busy families.

But over time, a few things became clear:

  • The cost of running a physical product business was stacking up fast.

  • The emotional load of trying to keep it all afloat started affecting my creativity.

  • The sales just weren't consistent enough to justify the ongoing expenses.. no matter how much I marketed, created, and showed up.

At first, I thought maybe I just needed to push harder. Launch new products. Post more. Redesign the website.
But deep down, I realized I wasn’t just tired - I was burnt out. Done.

Signs It Was Time to Close

Looking back, there were a few clear signs that closing was the right move:

  • The financial strain was outweighing the joy.

  • New ideas and opportunities excited me more than fixing old problems.

  • My mental and physical health were suffering from the constant pressure.

  • The passion was still there, but it had shifted to something new.

It wasn’t about giving up.
It was about making space for what’s next.

What Happened After

Closing Cozy Cow wasn’t easy!! Emotionally or logistically.
I ran clearance sales, thanked my amazing customers & started the hard process of packing away a chapter of my life.

But something incredible happened too:
I felt lighter.
I felt excited again.
And I realized that ending one dream didn’t mean I failed, it meant I was making room for the next one.

Since then, I’ve been able to pour my energy into new creative projects, new businesses, and new goals that feel even more aligned with who I am now.

If You’re Wondering Whether to Close Your Business...

Here’s what I’ll say:
Trust yourself.
It’s okay to grieve what could have been.
But it’s also okay to outgrow something you once loved.

Closing a business doesn’t mean you’re not successful.
